A unique consultancy...

Ideablast was established in 1997 when Julia Machotka left her corporate job in high tech to take a stab at what was next. She was constantly asked to lend her web expertise (a rare commodity in those days) and, after many such requests, her job as consultant was in full swing.

What makes Ideablast unique is that Julia only works with a team of subcontractors, not a staff. This lack of overhead makes prices extremely competitive, yet the output is as good as it gets. It's hard to find another similar model to this out there—all the offerings of a large creative services agency, but without the high price tag, huge ego, or a single employee.

When Kristin Weimers and Julia found themselves working for the same client in 2005, the two realized what a amazing set of skills they offered as a pair. The subcontracting model was, and still is, in full force but with one major and consistent contributor at her side: Kristin.

We proudly boast a Webby award nominated site (Green Home), a repeat client of 10 years with $30 billion in sales (Monex Precious Metals) and the biggest technology companies in the world (SAP, Cisco and McAfee, to name just a few). We are located in the San Francisco bay area and you, our clients, have come to us from all over, virtually.

Our goal is to continue to provide excellent creative services and to grow with, and keep ahead of, your brand’s growth in your marketplace.

Julia Machotka likes to say she’s a “Julia of all trades, a master of none,” which is equally accurate and absurd and worthy of a chuckle or two. In truth, she has a very good grasp of the intricacies technical and artistic aspects of print, web and multimedia. Her broad breadth makes her an excellent creative director. “I have the unique insight into each aspect of creative development. With my endless supply of ideas, I work really well with those experts and achieve an incredible result. My design and direction, plus the incredible talent of others, equals an unsurpassed product.” Julia holds a B.A. in Art History from UC Santa Cruz.

Kristin Weimers is the next best thing to cloning Julia when it comes to project managing and a nice complement to Julia when it comes to design. Her curious and creative character is supported by strong typographic skills and design sense as well as a meticulous attention to detail. Having worked for design studios, start-ups and in corporate marketing departments she has been on all sides of the design process and understands the big picture goals from each view. She has a B.A. degree in Graphic Design Communications from CSU, Chico.
